Hello World podcast: Season 6 episode 4

How to develop as a computing educator

APRIL 29, 2024 SEASON 6 EPISODE 4

Educators are at the heart of successful learning. They create and facilitate learning experiences through compelling explanations, challenging misconceptions, and providing expert feedback and guidance. Developing and maintaining these skills and underlying knowledge takes time and practice, and is an ongoing process, especially in a dynamic and evolving field such as computing.

In this episode, James and Sway discuss their thoughts on keys skills and attributes that successful computing educators have in common and how to go about developing them. They sat down to talk with some of our friends at Teach First, the UK’s largest teacher training programme.

  • Daljit Shoker is a subject development lead for Computing at Teach First. She has 18 years of experience of teaching ICT/Computing across UK secondary schools and is passionate about all things Computing, education research, and making Computing an inclusive and diverse environment.

  • Jonny Usherwood is subject lead for Computing at Teach First and has 15 years of experience of teaching ICT and computing in UK secondary schools.

  • Katy Barber is a second-year trainee teacher with Teach First.
